THE WAY WE WERE is a futuristic documentary fairytale about biodiversity and the beauty of nature.
An omniscient narrator takes us to the year 2045: Ben, a film student, is shooting a clandestine movie about extinct animals, which brings him into contact with a generation of older people who were actively involved in the arts, industry, agriculture and environmental protection around the year 2017. They reflect on how more and more animal and plant species were going extinct “back then” and how we increasingly neglected environmental protection—and why no one did anything to stop it. The story tells the legend of Ben whose revealing film ends up saving the world.
